Here's a handsome, petite writing
desk from the Art Nouveau period; it's probably a hundred-plus
years old. The mirrors are original and nicely beveled, in excellent
condition. Above them, in the center, is a pedestal for the display
of one of your favorite vases or bowls (as suggested in a photo
below, mine is an acid cut-back Degue, and is not included with
the desk!). The two deep drawers (19 inches of interior depth!)
have very special brass ornamentation around the keyholes (sorry,
no keys). Overall dimensions of the desk: 49 to the top of the
pedestal, 31 to the top of the writing surface, 23 deep and 34
wide. I presume the wood is cherry or something of that nature,
as the color suggests.

The back is affixed by dowels which
go into the desk-top, as are the sides. The sides are not glued
into the back at the moment, because I figure it will be shipped,
and it breaks down for safe travel this way. You'll probably
want to glue them in place once it arrives, and at the same time
glue the small break in the right-hand side, which you can see
in a photo below.

This small break was glued once,
but it's come undone. It can easily be re-glued, but best to
wait until it's been shipped.

Surprise! Above the drawers there's
a writing surface which slides out. The little pull which was
in the middle needs replacing, and the inset would be fabulous
with a nice piece of hand-tooled leather. I'll leave those tasks
up to you... unless you want me to have them done by my expert
restorers.... (e-mail
Jack for a price)
