(A) This psyche, one of Leleu's most coveted creations, has it all -- beveled mirror with brushed nickel surround and backed with a single slab of solid mahogany; loup d'amboyne stand with a smooth-as-silk French polish, brushed nickel hardware -- and it's full-length, of course, 71 inches tall to be exact (the mirror, including its metal frame, is 28 across at the top and about 18 at the bottom; the base is about 39 across and is identical on the reverse side). In essentially immaculate condition, ready for your very ample-sized dressing room... Leleu designed a couple of these types of standing mirrors. One other I've seen is oval-shaped, with inlaid ivory and bronze. I would venture that the oval-shaped one typifies Leleu's earlier design focus -- and the more traditional and classic form of Art Deco, as suggested by the presence of the inlay and other ornamental flourishes.
Backed with another exquisite piece of wood -- probably a tight-grained mahogany -- with decorative nickel-plated, solid brass fittings. This psyche appears in a variety of Art Deco books and publications, for example Alistair Duncan's Art Deco and the Italian Decorative Arts compendium from the period, Le Arti d'oggi, Architettura e arti decorative in Europa, by Roberto Panini, 1930. In these publications the stand is shown with scalloped "shoulders:"
I suspect that the scalloped version would be earlier than this sleeker model, as, generally speaking, ornamentation tends to fall away on items whose designer seeks to achieve a more "modern" -- Moderne -- look. Personally, I find the design esthetic of the oval mirror to be more constrained and rigid, more "precious" if you will, and this design leaner, bolder, more daring and futuristic. Of course if I owned the oval psyche I might be singing a different tune, huh? Well, you know what you like, you be the judge! GONE... SOLD!!

(B) I couldn't resist showing off this (pair) of American Moderne chairs here, even though they're not French. Look at other pix and read the full description on this link. SOLD!!

(C) A simply designed French occasional table, but with a veneered top of Circassian elm, just to keep thing interesting (like that lump of fois gras in the soup). My ace restorer has worked his magic on the top, with the spellbinding results you see here! (e-mail Jack for a price)

(D) Here's an Art Deco-iconic "gueridon," or occasional table, of an electrifyingly GORGEOUS rosewood -- just refinished (hand-rubbed, we don't fool around). YES, I'd grovel to get this back... SOLD!!

(E) Our photo victim this time is a w-i-d-e French 40's console with the most gorgeous "gold vein" marble, one of the most unique cuts I've seen -- 59 1/2 inches to be exact! Requisite 40's curls and twists in the iron-work, and featuring a gold-white-brown faux finish, original to the piece and in fine condition. Our magicians can fiddle with the finish if, for example, you'd like to see this in (pant-pant!) brushed nickel! This console attaches to the wall wherever you'd like, having no base, so it will just "hover" and "float" in your entryway or wherever you decide to use it! YUM!! SOLD!!

(F) A signed Thonet (Austrian) vanity with original chair, generously beveled mirror, which swivels... with original Secessionist style fabric (moreorless) intact! SOLD!!

(G) Armoire, vanity, and two nightstands... in superb condition, with endless storage, lovely original hardware, moire silk under the glass tops on the vanity and nightstands (!!!). The usual superior French touches, in other words... Too cool for this school... SOLD!!

(H) This French vanity is from the early 30's. Check out the wonderful red (maroon) and white marble! It's in excellent condition, like new (which for a piece of marble means what, 100,000 years?). On the underside of the small drawers there's an inscription attesting to the fact that this was a gift on 15 June 1933 from a proud grandmother (Marie Douffort) to her precious grandchildren! Cute attack time!!! SOLD!!

![]() (J) Another etched mirrored glass occasional table, this one purportedly by Leleu, according to "another web source" (well, you can tell by the swagger of those legs, can't you?). This baby needs a little tender loving care...like a total refinish! But then you'll have something pretty special (don't freak: I'll have that done for you!). It's 36 wide including the top of the legs; 28 across the top; 22 high. VERY solid construction! Refinished, gloriously beautiful, and gloriously SOLD!!

![]() (K) A high-style poof with stepped feet and a gorgeous ring of macassar ebony! It measures 22 wide, 17 tall, and as you can see sports its original upholstery! Incroyable!! SOLD, of course!!
(L) Here's the hall tree, squared tubing in solid aluminum, which stands apart from the crowd... with it's unusual and compelling design! Great for your hats and coats in the entryway, great for your towels and clothes in the bathroom. It stands 73 inches high, 31 wide, and projects about 11 from the wall. I've replaced the funky old mirror with a brand-new one in the same design. SOLD!!
(M) I really like the flowing lines of this side table, which has an etched-design mirror on top and bottom (the bottom one has a crack which runs from one side to the other, which you can see in this picture). It's 23 1/2 wide by 20 high. (e-mail Jack for a price)
